She has worked in the creative sector for over thirty years, undertaking many roles and projects including devising productions, managing tours, organising festivals, running shows and events, creating projects across art forms, saving historic buildings, supporting new voices, developing partnerships, building networks and facilitating change. For ten years until April 2006, she was Manager: Northern Arts Services, Creative New Zealand. "It is sobering to hear from artists about what it's like being shackled by 'old' (and to some extent limited) thinking about the role, place and contribution of the arts sector within New Zealand's economy. It is heartening however to experience the willingness in the creative sector to explore, build and promote new models of practice - to grow ideas, talent and income. It is also very stimulating to see how artists in particular are engaging in multi-disciplinary practices and in projects and industries both inside and outside the creative sector to grow successful and sustainable careers."
