Auckland's dedicated business areas make up a key component of the city's economic fabric. They are productive places providing locations for industry to locate away from residential populations and sufficient space for land extensive industries, such as
These areas are located around employment areas that can support more jobs, providing diverse employment opportunities for residents within the city and region, and cater to increased movements of workers, customers and goods that extra jobs will bring. The development and refurbishment of business precincts across Auckland city is aimed at enhancing the city's competitiveness as a business location, making it attractive to high value-added firms and talented workers. In addition, current population growth projections suggest that Auckland city will need to generate an additional 70,000 jobs by 2026. A share of these jobs will be located in dedicated business areas such as Rosebank, the Tamaki Innovation Precinct and Penrose. The business precinct work is strategically linked to Auckland City Council's growth management strategy, which identifies a series of dedicated business areas that are able to provide for employment growth. Auckland City's growth management strategy identifies areas of change where accelerated development will be facilitated via new regulations and enhanced community infrastructure and utilities.
