Asian Pacific Children's Convention and The Bridge ClubOverview | Junior ambassadors - 2008 | Experiences from the 2007 APCC | Past exchanges and experiences
OverviewThe Asian Pacific Children's Convention (APCC) is an annual summit held in Fukuoka, Japan and is an organisation that exists to encourage multi-cultural interaction between children of all nations of the Pacific. The Fukuoka Convention and the Bridge ClubThe Asian Pacific Children's Convention in Fukuoka, Japan is a civic movement that is made possible by public subsidies and donations from the enterprises and the Supporter's Organisation. It is a non-governmental, non-profitable organisation. The main theme of the Convention is "We are the Bridge". This theme embraces the creation of a new Asian-Pacific interaction at the cultural level, as well as fostering a feeling of friendship and peace throughout the region. Every year eight Junior Ambassadors (JA's), four boys and four girls, and one chaperone from 46 Asian-Pacific nations including Japan and New Zealand are invited to attend the convention in July which runs for about ten days. Because Auckland City and Fukuoka are sister cities, New Zealand's junior ambassadors are selected from within the Auckland city boundaries. Participants join in a three to four day orientation camp, and then home-stay with Japanese families for the rest of their trip. Those selected have their international travel costs to and from Fukuoka, and other accommodation and home-stay expenses all paid by the convention organisers. BRIDGE CLUB members, as possibly tomorrow's global leaders, take an initiative in building a stable and sensible human network. BRIDGE CLUB members promise to respect differences and look beyond nationality, colour of skin, language, etc, and promote mutual understanding.
