Our peopleAuckland, New ZealandAuckland is New Zealand's largest city, with around 404,658 people living within the boundary and 1.25 million in the greater Auckland area, representing about one-third of the population of the whole country. Built on a narrow isthmus between two harbours, it is characterised by extinct volcanoes and picturesque islands, with the city, its suburbs and the islands covering an area of 637km2. This website includes the 2006 biennial survey of residents' quality of life, as well as latest (2007) report which provides a snapshot of life in New Zealand's 12 major cities including Auckland, based on a combination of survey and statistical results.
