BackgroundThe Auckland-Busan sister city agreement was signed in 1996, in response to the growing importance of South Korea to the New Zealand economy. Auckland's relationship with Busan has included tourism, education, cultural, municipal administration and community initiatives. For information about Busan, visit Dynamic Busan, the official English website of Busan Metropolitan City. Some examples of programmesEnglish programmeEvery year, Busan Metropolitan Government sends employees to The University of Auckland's English Language Academy for eight weeks of paid tuition and a home stay experience. Film industry supportBIFCOM (Busan International Film Commission and industry showcase)3-5 October 2008 The Busan International Film Commission and industry showcase is a key event for the screen industry in the Asia-Pacific region, attracting participation from over 20 countries. As a continuation of the business development work being carried out in Korea, Film Auckland will be sending a representative to the event and they are interested in hearing from delegates considering attending. As Film Auckland's gold sponsor, Auckland City Council have worked with Busan Metropolitan Government to organise a programme for visiting film professionals from Auckland. This has been possible through Auckland’s sister city relationship with Busan. The programme will include site inspections of studios and postproduction facilities, a networking function (to which they will invite key screen industry representatives from around Asia) and a visit to a sightseeing location.
