Onehunga proposed cycle lanes
Auckland
City Council has established a citywide policy to plan and provide for improved
walking and cycling facilities. As part of efforts to implement this policy, we
sought the views of the local community for proposed cycle lanes in Onehunga
in April of this year. A number of objections were received on
the previous proposals, many of which highlighted the loss of on-street parking
as an issue.
The proposed options that have been developed to address the concerns raised by
the community are described below.

options Mays Road | Proposed options Onehunga Mall |
Proposed options Manuukau and Turama Roads |
Consultation
Mt Smart Road
Option 1
Option 1 is the previous proposal for on-road cycle lanes
on both sides of the road and on-street parking on the southern side of the
road. This resulted in on-street parking being removed from the northern side
of the road.
Option 2
To provide for on-road cycle lanes on both sides of the
road and mitigate the loss of parking with indented parking on both sides of the
road.
Option 3
Shared use path on both sides of the road enabling
on-street parking to be retained on both sides of the road.
Mays Road
Option 1
This is the original proposal for on-road cycle lanes on
both sides of the road resulting in the removal of on-street parking from both
sides of the road.
Option 2
On-road cycle lanes on both sides of the road with indented
parking on both sides of the road.
Option 3
Shared use path on both sides of the road and on-street
parking as present.
Onehunga Mall
Option 1
Option 1 is the original proposal with on-road cycle lanes
on both sides of the road and on-street parking on the western side of the
road. On-street parking would be removed on the eastern side of the road under
this option.

Option 2
This option involves an on road cycle lane on the uphill
side (western) of Onehunga Mall. This would allow on-street parking to be
retained on both sides of the road.
Onehunga Mall 2 (851kb) PDF
Option 3
A variation of option 2 with the uphill cycle lane on the
uphill side of the road and a downhill shared use path. As with option 2,
parking is retained on both sides of the road.
Onehunga Mall 3 (854kb) PDF
Manuaku Road / Turama Road
Option 1
Widen existing footpath and provide shared use path. This
would result in the removal of on-street parking.
Option 2
Provide shared use path with minimal widening of footpath
and retain on-street parking as present.
