Additional bus lane proposed for Mt Eden Road

Auckland City is working to make the city a safe and easy place to move around. As part of this commitment, we are considering an additional citybound bus and bike lane along Mt Eden Road to help improve reliability and encourage further bus use.

Public consultation was undertaken during October, and closed on 3 November 2004. Thank you to all those who submitted feedback; this will be analysed and reported to the council, community boards and council officers, and will help council make its decision on the proposal.

The proposed changes are:

  • a citybound bus and bike lane on the western side of Mt Eden Road, between Esplanade Road and approximately 100 metres south of Boston Road
  • a pedestrian refuge just north of the railway bridge, to improve pedestrian safety when accessing the railway station
  • relocating the bus stop and bus shelter on the western side of the railway bridge 10 metres south, to maximise safety for pedestrians using the pedestrian refuge.

The proposed lane is 350 metres long and would operate between 7am and 9am, Monday to Friday. On-street parking spaces would be temporarily removed during these times to accommodate the lane.
