FreightPlanning for freight transport's growth | Freight forum and operator survey | Overweight vehicles Planning for freight transport's growthWith the country's largest international air and sea ports, the Auckland region's size and growth mean that Auckland freight transport is an important regional and national economic issue. When freight transport is working well and experiencing growth, our economy directly benefits. The movement of goods and services is a crucial part of everyday life for all Aucklanders. Businesses, industry, shops, offices and homes all rely on the delivery of goods and services to their communities. This delivery needs to be timely and cost-effective. The challenge for local authorities and the freight industry is to work together to ensure freight is moved in the safest, most efficient and people-friendly environment possible. This is no easy task given the competing demands of freight - by road, rail, sea and air - and the needs of our communities for safer roads, less pollution and reduced congestion. With this in mind, we have developed a comprehensive freight strategy for Auckland city that forms the foundations of our approach to managing freight transport into the future. Read the freight strategy summary and see how we're working to manage the efficient, safe and community-friendly movement of freight through our ports and communities. |
