FreightPlanning for freight transport's growth | Freight forum and operator survey | Overweight vehicles Overweight vehiclesPermit ApplicationsOverweight PermitOverweight vehicles must obtain an overweight permit from Auckland City if they wish to travel on any of the Auckland Local Authority Roads with axle and/or weight configurations that exceed the national guidelines. If the applicant has an overweight permit from Transit NZ covering the Auckland City area, it is not necessary to apply for an overweight permit from Auckland City Council to travel on the local authority roads. However, if the applicant already has a Transit permit but wishes to cross any of the bridges or tunnels within Auckland City, they must still obtain an overbridge permit from Auckland City Council. Overbridge PermitAll applicants must apply for an overbridge permit from Auckland City Council to cross any structures such as bridges, tunnels etc along the route within Auckland City. Contact DetailsAll overweight and overbridge permit from Auckland City can be obtained by contacting GHD Limited with phone (09) 261-1560 and fax (09) 262-8340. All Transit permits can be obtained by contacting Ernest Welthagen at Transit Auckland, phone (09) 368 2000. All overdimension permits can be obtained by contacting Land Transport New Zealand (LTNZ), Overdimension Permit Issuing Agency (OPIA) Helpdesk, freephone 0800 OVERSIZE (0800 683 774) and fax 06 953 6313. Note: 24 hours notice is required for both overweight and overbridge permits. For loads requiring an engineering review, this may take longer and the operator will be contacted. RenewalsTo renew an existing permit, operators should forward by fax a copy of this permit with a covering letter detailing the period of renewal required. Route MapsAuckland City has specified routes throughout the city which overweight and over dimension vehicles can travel. Vehicles must use the approved route as far as possible to access their destination.
