Matiatia Wharf, Waiheke Island
It's
all smooth sailing for Waiheke residents and visitors with the new Matiatia
ferry terminal having undergone a $3.2 million upgrade.
Work on the passenger terminal was completed in February 2004, and was funded
by the Ferry Users Group and Auckland City Council.
At 100 per cent occupancy, Fullers, Waiheke Auto Rental, Waiheke Rental Cars
are some of the tenants at the precinct.
The terminal provides improved facilities and comfort for passengers
including:
- large covered waiting areas (inside and outside) for passengers and those
waiting to welcome people
- full cover from the roads to the ferries
- upgraded ticketing amenities concession facilities
- public toilets
- coastguard and first aid rooms
- freight handling facilities.
The
terminal footprint is largely the same as that which was proposed nearly 10
years ago when the wharf was designed. The internal layout was developed in
consultation with the Wharf User Group, which includes the Waiheke Community
Board.
