Background
It is
difficult to control parking around stadiums at event times. Traffic flow is
severely disrupted as patrons look for a park. Driveways are blocked by cars
and narrow streets present access and egress challenges. Often, local residents
cannot park close to their homes.
To help mitigate some of the effects of
additional traffic, a residents' parking scheme was introduced in 1997. The
scheme aims to minimise disruption to residents and enable them to park in
their streets at the time of Eden Park events. It was also developed to maximise
traffic and pedestrian flow at the time of Eden Park games.
The
Eden Park parking scheme comes into effect if an Eden Park event exceeds
patronage of greater than 5,000 people. For such events, "Residents Only" parking
signs are erected between 12 and 24 hours before a game.
To
park in the scheme area a resident must display a valid permit on the windscreen, in the pouch provided.
Residents also have access to a number of temporary permits for their visitors.
The parking scheme operates on a first in, first served basis and unfortunately,
parking space availability cannot be guaranteed. Designated 'no stopping' areas
cannot be parked in.
