PedestriansGet your feet on the street! For the ultimate stress-free mode of transport, just put your shoes on and step out the door - no parking or traffic hassles, no costs... no worries! We believe that walking is a great transport option - it helps to reduce our traffic congestion problems and is available to almost everyone. It's also an easy way to get the 30 minutes a day of exercise that help to keep you fit and healthy. Auckland City is working to make Auckland safe and easy to get around on foot. Initiatives that we coordinate include:
You can also check out an overview of Auckland City's cycle and walking strategy, which aims to develop cycleway and walkway routes across the city and encourage their use. The strategy was created following extensive consultation and collaboration with community representatives and puts in place a strategic direction for the future planning of cycling and walking in Auckland city. Auckland Isthmus communities such as Panmure, Avondale, Grafton and Otahuhu are set to enjoy pedestrian improvements in the near future, as they are areas which are expected to have significant population growth. Remember that you can make a difference by reporting anything that impedes your walking journey. This includes things such as low-hanging branches over footpaths and retail clutter on main streets. Please don't hesitate to report these sorts of issues by contacting us. Walking is a great way to get around - next time you need to travel a short distance, consider leaving the car at home and getting your feet on the street!
