On 16 December 2004 the Auckland City Council passed a resolution which
approved in part the Auckland City District Plan - Central Area Section. This
approval was with the consent of the Environment Court, also granted on 16
December 2004.
As a result of the Environment Court's approval and the council's resolution,
the plan became operative in part at noon on Wednesday, 19 January
2005.
The parts of the plan which are not operative at this time are:
- part 14.10 Victoria Park Market Precinct
- the scheduled items in the Victoria Park Market with the reference numbers
178, 355, 356, 357 and 358
- motorway designation 283 and
- variation 29, which relates to the scheduling of the Fitzroy Hotel.
The central area section is the third and final section of the Auckland City
District Plan. This section sets out the council's strategies for managing natural
and physical resources. Managing these resources is achieved by the use of
various rules to control the effects of activities and development in a
particular area.
The central area covers the part of downtown Auckland bounded by the motorway
network, Stanley Street in Parnell and the waterfront.
The sections of the district plan concerning the Hauraki Gulf
islands and
Auckland isthmus became operative in 1996 and 1999 respectively.
Copies of the Auckland City District Plan - Central Area Section are also available for viewing at
Auckland City's Civic and Graham Street service
centres and at the Central
City Library.
