Operative District Plan - Hauraki Gulf Islands Section
Introduction
The Auckland City District Plan - proposed Hauraki Gulf Islands Section
was publicly notified on 18 September 2006. The period for lodging
submissions to the proposed plan formally closed on 11 December 2006.
We are currently in the hearings
phase of the plan review.
The proposed Hauraki Gulf Islands section of the Auckland City District Plan
('the proposed HGI Plan') consists of written text (including appendices and
annexures) and planning maps.
The proposed HGI Plan applies to those Hauraki Gulf islands which are included
within the Auckland City boundary. The most commonly known islands are Waiheke,
Great Barrier, Rakino, Ponui, Pakatoa, Rotoroa, Motuihe, Motutapu, Rangitoto,
Browns, Pakihi and Little Barrier. There are many smaller islands - more than 65
islands in total.
The HGI Plan is prepared as a single document which addresses the resource
management issues affecting the Hauraki Gulf islands. While the Plan should be
read as a whole, the text and appendices have been organised in parts as
follows:
- Introduction
- Resource management overview
- Strategic management areas
- General rules
- Network utility services
- Financial contributions
- Heritage
- Natural hazards
- Hazardous facilities and contaminated land
- Land units: objectives, policies and activities
- Assessment areas
- Subdivision
- Connectivity and linkages
- Definitions
- Heritage appendices
- Other appendices
- Annexures
The planning maps for the Hauraki Gulf islands have been divided into
maps for the inner islands and maps for the outer islands. In total
there are 63 map sheets.
Each sheet has been further divided into map 1
and map 2. Map 1 identifies the location of land units, settlement areas
(Great Barrier only) and significant ridgeline areas. Map 2 contains
information about designated land, scheduled heritage items, natural
hazard areas, other additional limitations and roading classifications.
It is important to look at both map 1 and 2 for any site.
The proposed HGI Plan can be viewed online.
