Operative District Plan - Hauraki Gulf Islands Section 1996

Introduction

The Auckland City District Plan (Hauraki Gulf Islands Section) became operative in July 1996. Comprised of the written document and planning maps, the Hauraki Gulf Islands section of Auckland City's District Plan applies to many of the islands of the Hauraki Gulf. The main islands commonly known or referred to include: Waiheke, Great Barrier, Pakatoa, Ponui, Motuihe, Motutapu, Rakino, Brown's, and Rangitoto (more than 65 islands overall).

The Hauraki Gulf Islands Section of the District Plan (the Plan) is prepared as a single document and brings together all the resource management issues facing this part of Auckland City. While the Plan should be read as a whole, the issues are presented as parts. The Plan has 12 parts:

4. Resource Management Issues and Strategy - Inner and Outer Islands
5. Strategic Management Areas
6. Land Units, including rules and standards applying to the land units

12. Appendices, including information of schedules of protected items and features.

The planning maps for the Hauraki Gulf Islands are divided into maps for the Inner and Outer Islands and these are part of District Plan but are separated from the text. The Outer Island maps including Great Barrier Island are not available on the website, they can be viewed at the Great Barrier Island Service Centre, Claris, the Waiheke Service Centre, Ostend and City Planning, Level 11 Civic Building
