The plan
Introduction
Why have a business precinct plan?
Business development communities are located around employment areas that have the potential to support increased employment of
workers, customers and goods.
Development and refurbishment of business precincts across Auckland city seeks to enhance the city's competitiveness as a business
location, attracting high value-adding firms and talented workers.
The objectives and outcomes of business precincts are to:
- retain and grow existing industries
- generate additional employment
- improve productivity
- encourage GDP growth and wealth creation
- support an innovation culture.
Business precinct plans are the framework used to encourage growth and they aim to deliver many of the objectives of Auckland City
Council's growth management strategy.
In the development of business precinct plans, the role of council is to:
- set the regulatory environment
- apply appropriate zoning and controls
- provide infrastructure including transport and utilities
- develop partnerships
- undertake catalytic or demonstration projects.
A plan for Rosebank
Rosebank is a significant dedicated business area located in the western area
of Auckland city, contributing three per cent of the city's total employment. It
is a dynamic and highly successful production and employment zone with
concentrations of activity in the manufacturing, wholesale, construction,
transport and storage, property and business services sectors.
With over 8300 employees, Rosebank has already exceeded employment growth
projections for the precinct to 2021 [1]. With expected increases in employment
density throughout the city's dedicated business areas, this figure will rise
considerably. In order for the precinct to fulfil its future potential, there is
a need to consider and plan for future changes and development within the area.
Rosebank 2030
Rosebank 2030 has been a collaborative effort between Auckland City Council
and the Rosebank business community with support from other key stakeholders of
the business precinct.
