Eden Park precinct upgrade
Auckland City Council is proposing to fund a range of transport and infrastructure improvement projects in the streets
surrounding Eden Park.
Read about the proposed improvements in each area. The period for feedback
closed on Friday 6 June 2008.
The projects will provide a significant legacy for our residents, as well as supporting the successful delivery of Rugby World Cup
(RWC) 2011.
We want to ensure the revamped stadium is a
"better neighbour" for nearby residents and that it is sensitive to, and
appropriate for, its neighbourhood.
Long-term benefits for residents include:
- improvement in vehicle flow around Eden Park,
and between the stadium and the central city
- significantly improved passenger transport
connections in the precinct, easing parking requirements for the area
- enhancements to the key urban centres
in the precinct
- improved infrastructure, including lighting
and safety
- creation of key walking routes between Eden
Park and the CBD, reducing both the amount of vehicle traffic and parking
requirements for the area
- improved traffic management during all events
and matches held at the stadium in the lead-up to RWC 2011 and beyond.
A $22 million package for projects in the Eden Park precinct is part of our
draft
annual plan, which is currently open for public feedback. The Kingsland town
centre and Valley Road shopping centre upgrades as well as the other streetscape projects are funded
separately from this $22 million package.
