Introduction
It was recognised that the areas surrounding the museum and cenotaph needed
to be improved for the benefit of all visitors to the Domain. The master plan
will provide clear direction for the future of these areas and help us to secure
an appropriate setting for these important memorials.
The area is a scheduled heritage site, so we need to be sure that any
improvements we carry out respect the heritage values of the two monuments.
The master plan aims to bring the museum closer to the original designer's
vision. Three young architects, Grierson, Aimer and Draffin, won the 1922
competition to design the museum.
