Newmarket Park remediation

Introduction | Project documents and plans

Introduction

Auckland City Council is carrying out remediation and stabilisation works at Newmarket Park, Parnell.

Newmarket Park is a closed landfill with a southern slope that is prone to slips. The remediation works are being carried out to address ongoing public health and safety and environmental risks.

The works involve removing the existing vegetation on the southern slope, excavating then rebuilding the slope, then revegetating with native plants and trees.

Detailed ecological mitigation and landscaping plans for the site were consulted upon during 2009 and these plans are being implemented.

These works will take place over two earthworks seasons:

  • January to April 2010 and
  • October 2010 to April 2011.

As part of the works other areas of the park will be used for construction purposes.
