Auckland city's community safety awards 2008"Promoting and recognising community safety" Wednesday, 3 September 2008 Auckland City Council has identified community safety as a priority area for the city and its residents, as it has a direct impact on the quality of life in our communities, and therefore the city. Many groups, individuals, organisations and businesses promote and carry out community safety initiatives, injury prevention, road safety or crime prevention work in our communities. They work hard to ensure that our communities are safe. This is the fourth year Auckland City Council has recognised the contributions of these Aucklanders, who help make our community a safer place to live, work and visit. The awards take place during Safety NZ Week, a national initiative led by the Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) and Safe Communities Foundation New Zealand (SCFNZ). To be eligible for the award, a person, group, school or business needs to have introduced a community safety project or activity (focusing on injury prevention, road safety or crime prevention) in the Auckland City Council area during the past two years. 2008 award winners The four winners (who each received a certificate and New Zealand designed art work) were:
