Why we approve building products
This came about from a reaction to building product failures which led to the 'leaky building' syndrome and the lack of a building
product certification scheme provided for under the Building Act 2004.
In response, we implemented a building products approval process that registers products acceptable for building purposes.
For building products to be approved, the documentation supplied by the applicant is assessed internally against the requirements of
the building code (Building Regulations 1992, Schedule 1). Following acceptance, the building products are listed on council registers.
Tips
The performance of these building products relies on the workmanship of persons installing the products. Whilst every care has been
taken in listing these registers, it is important that the designers and installers should ensure that the selected products are
suitable for the projects are they are working on. These registers need to be read in conjunction with the product-specific
technical specification or installation manual.
Before use you should make sure
- you have the current product manual
- the building product is suitable for the intended application
- the building product is used in accordance with best practice.
