Paying your rates

Pay in full

You can pay your rates in full at any time, however, to qualify for the 3.20 per cent discount your payment must be received by Auckland City before 5pm on Wednesday 20 August 2008.

Advantages of paying in full

If you pay the full amount of your rates by the first instalment date:

you will get a 3.20 per cent discount
you will get no more rates bills this year.

You can pay in full by:

Telephone or Internet Banking
Online (by credit card)
Mail
In person

Paying by instalment

You can either pay your rates by Rates Direct where you can choose the frequency of regular payments from your bank account or in four instalments spread throughout the year.

Four instalments

Rates are payable in four equal instalments. They are spread throughout the year. You will receive four rates bills. Each one is due one month after you receive the bill.

In 2008/2009, regular instalments are due by 5pm on the following dates:

Instalment 1		Wednesday 20 August 2008
Instalment 2		Thursday 20 November 2008
Instalment 3		Friday 20 February 2009
Instalment 4		Wednesday 20 May 2009

Note: If you are paying by instalment, allow enough time for the payment to reach us by the due date. If your payment is late, a 10 per cent penalty will be added.

Another 10 per cent penalty will be added to overdue amounts still unpaid by 1 July 2008 and 5 January 2009.

You can pay by any of the following ways:

Telephone or Internet Banking
Online (by credit card)
Mail
In person

Pay by Rates Direct

You give Auckland City the authority to make deductions from your bank account at an agreed frequency - fortnightly, monthly, bi-monthly or annually

Advantages of Rates Direct

you only have to set up the authority once
Auckland City will send notification of the new deduction amounts and dates at the start of each rating year
no chance of forgetting - so no penalties

Setting up Rates Direct

To set up Rates Direct you can:

complete and return the Rates Direct, direct debit authority form enclosed with your first rates notice using the envelope provided. Don't forget to affix a 50c stamp.
download the form from this website. If you have multiple properties you can have more than one property scheduled for payment at the same time. Each property can be listed separately on your bank statement but each will incur associated bank fees.

This can be arranged at any time of the year, however it takes 2-3 weeks to set up, so if there is an instalment due, ensure we receive the form well in advance.

Pay by Telephone or Internet Banking

Customers within New Zealand

You can make arrangements with your bank to pay your land rates and other bills using telephone or internet banking. Contact your bank to set this up, you will need to provide the bank with the 11 digit assessment number from your rates notice. The bank will have all of the other required details.

Customers outside New Zealand

Customers outside of New Zealand, or with an overseas bank will need to provide the following details to their bank:

Payee name	Auckland City
Payer particulars	Your name
Payer code	Property address (listed on your Auckland City rates notice)
Payer reference	11 digit assessment number (listed on your Auckland City rates notice)

Account name Bank Branch Account number

Note: For multiple properties it is essential that a separate payment is set up for each property, as above. These details apply to Auckland City land rates only. Contact Metrowater for details about how to pay your water rates.

Remember to pay your rates before the instalment due date to ensure Auckland City receives your payment on time.

Pay online by credit card

You can pay your rates online by credit card. The credit cards accepted for this transaction are Visa and MasterCard. A convenience fee of 2.10 per cent per transaction will apply (or minimum of $3.50 per transaction).

Pay by mail

Write a cheque for the amount owing and post it with the remittance slip, using the envelope enclosed with your rates bill. Cheques should be made out to Auckland City. Don't forget to affix a 50c stamp.

To avoid penalties, your payment must be received by Auckland City before 5pm on the instalment due date.

Pay in person

You can pay in person by taking the remittance slip part of the rates notice and your payment to one of the following Auckland City service centres:

Pay at Westpac

You can also pay land rates at any Westpac branch in the Auckland region, from Pukekohe to Orewa, up to the due date of the instalment. Payments may be made by cash or cheque. Eftpos or credit card payments option is not available.

You must have your original rates notice with the remittance slip intact when paying, and you should only pay for the amount on the slip. If you have any overdue rates or penalties owing your payment will not be accepted at Westpac.
