The agency entity gives you contextual information about how local government has been structured and what it did. This will help you discover what records were created, and where they can be found. An example of an agency is Avondale Borough Council. Although no longer an entity since it amalgamated with Auckland City Council in 1927, all records created under the Avondale Borough Council agency will still be associated with it.
