1859 portrait of Hochstetter

On receiving news of Hochstetter’s death Haast re-read the letters Hochstetter had written to him during the 25 years since they had been in New Zealand together. The obituary is one of the most important as it includes two photographic portraits and reflects on Hochstetter as both a person and a scientist.
