Hochstetter's public appeal for natural history specimens.

Hochstetter's public appeal for natural history specimens. Hochstetter letter to the Colonial Secretary, dated Auckland 13 January 1859, The New Zealand Gazette. No. 3. 14 January 1859. [Facsimile].
This letter appeared in numerous New Zealand newspapers. Hochstetter was very impressed by the response from the New Zealand public who all generously presented him with a wide range of natural history specimens, both to take back to Vienna and to form the nucleus of a colonial museum in New Zealand.
