Murray Grimsdale’s mural of local Ponsonby scenes and landmarks decorates the Leys Institute walls.

The Leys Institute in 2005 was restored and repainted to match the original colours.

Celebrating a hundred years of library service in Ponsonby. His Worship the Mayor of Auckland City Dick Hubbard and Mrs Elva Shepherd (nee Haszard) cut the birthday cake. Mrs Shepherd was born in 1900 and attended the Leys Institute Library and the gymnasium as a child. The Library has recorded an oral history of her recollections.
