Go By Bike Breakfast
Bigger, better, cleaner
Our annual Go
by bike breakfast will be held on Wednesday 25 February 2009. This year
we have an exciting new venue - the Eastern Viaduct.
Entering the
Viaduct at the junction of Quay Street and Fanshawe Street, you go straight
ahead, past the NZ National Maritime Museum. We'll occupy the car park area
between the information centre and Te Wero Bridge. A map will be available soon.
Our 2008 Go by
bike breakfast was a huge success, with more cyclists, more fun, more great
prizes, free food and entertainment. It was the biggest so far with 750 cyclists
enjoying the event.
Two bicycles
were given away, one from Bauer and one from Avanti Plus Mt Eden. There were
also heaps of spot prizes including best dressed cyclists and goodie bags for
all
Only nine per
cent of waste generated at the 2008 event went to landfill, with the rest either
composted or recycled.
Cycling is a
healthy and fun way to get around the city and Go by bike is shaping up to be
even bigger and better in 2009.
Check back
later this year for more information.
Free bike lessons
In the lead up to the Go
by bike breakfast we'll be holding free bike lessons again for those new to
cycling or people who haven't been on a bike for a long time. Check back for
more information later in the year.
Cycling buses
Cycling buses
are one way to make a statement on your way to the Go by bike breakfast. In 2008
cycling buses traveled along Tamaki Drive, Dominion Road and the North -western
cycleway and a commuter group rode from the North Shore.
Kids bike ride
Kids up to 14 can come along to our kids bike ride on Thursday, 26 February where there will be live music, obstacle courses, prizes and other
activities.
See Kids bike ride.
Calling all sponsors and supporters
Potential
sponsors, contributors of breakfast food or drinks, supporters and volunteers
who would like to be involved in the Go by bike breakfast 09 are should contact us on
gobybike@aucklandcity.govt.nz.
One of the most exciting things about the Go
by bike breakfast is the high level of involvement of companies, organisations
and individuals out there in the community. Getting involved is a fabulous way
of celebrating cycling and contributing to the sustainability of the city - as
well as having a really good time!
