Farmers Santa Parade
Sunday 30 November 2008
We are thrilled to sponsor the Auckland Farmers Santa Parade again in 2008 in its 75th Year. The parade is the biggest Christmas event in New Zealand, which traditionally attracts over 250,000 spectators gathering in Auckland's CBD. This year has over 280 Christmas creations following on route from Mayoral Drive, through to Queen Street, Custom Street West and Albert Street. We recognise the 4,000 strong volunteer base, without whom the parade would never happen, with our annual Auckland City Cup, Farmers Santa Parade Outstanding Volunteer Award, introduced in 2006. We are looking for a special person who has been involved in the parade over the years. To nominate someone you think has been an outstanding volunteer over the years, email his or her details to eventsponsorship@aucklandcity.govt.nz. Include details of why you think this person is an outstanding volunteer and put Outstanding Volunteer in the subject heading. The Outstanding Volunteer for 2008 will be announced and presented with the Auckland City Cup at the parade after party. 2006's outstanding volunteer, Kim Kirker, has been involved in the parade right from the word go and has only ever missed two parades! Last year's outstanding volunteer Doug Cooke has been involved for the past 15 plus years, looking after the dispersal of floats and managing the crowds and safety. If the weather is bad, a cancellation will be announced on Newstalk ZB after 10am on Sunday 30 November 2008. The Parade will go ahead in light rain. Updated August 2008 |
